SHEKALIM: CHAPTER 8 : MISHNA 6
Meat of the most holy offerings which became tameh, whether by a primary tum'ah, or by a secondary tum'ah, whether inside or outside - Bet Shammai say, everything should be burned inside, except for that which became tameh through a primary tum'ah outside. And Bet Hillel say, everything should be burned outside, except for that which became tameh through a secondary tum'ah inside.
Kehati
Meat of the most holy offerings - Such as the burnt, sin and guilt offerings - Which became tameh, whether by a primary tum'ah - where it touched a sheretz or animal carrion, or by a secondary tum'ah - If it touched a rishon letum'ah, whether inside or outside - whether this occurred inside the Temple courtyard or outside it,
Bet Shammai say, Everything should be burned inside - In the place where the ashes of the sacrifices were deposited in the Temple courtyard, for anything consecrated which becomes invalid is burned inside the Temple precincts, except for that which became tameh through a primary tum'ah outside - for as it became tameh through a severe tum'ah outside the Temple courtyard, one does not bring it into the Temple courtyard to burn it, but burns it outside. On the other hand, if it became tameh even through a secondary tum'ah outside the Temple courtyard, it is brought into the Temple courtyard for burning, as this tum'ah is a minor one.
And Bet Hillel say, Everything should be burned outside - the Temple courtyard, except for that which became tameh through a secondary tum'ah inside - For as it became tameh through a minor type of tum'ah and inside the Temple courtyard, it is to be burned inside, but if it became tameh through an av hatum'ah, one is not to leave the tum'ah in the Temple courtyard, but must take the meat outside immediately and burn it outside. And if something became tameh from a minor tum'ah while outside the Temple courtyard, it is not to be brought into the courtyard.
SHEKALIM: CHAPTER 8 : MISHNA 7
R. Eliezer says, that which became tameh from a primary tum'ah, whether inside or outside, is to be burned outside; and that which became tameh from a secondary tum'ah, whether inside or outside, is to be burned inside. R. Akiva says, Wherever the place of contamination, there is its burning.
Kehati
This is a continuation of the previous mishnah, and it continues to discuss the law about sacrificial meat that became tameh.
R. Eliezer says, that which became tameh from a primary tum'ah - Meat of the most holy offerings which became tameh from a primary tum'ah, which is a severe tum'ah, whether inside or outside - Whether it became tameh inside the Temple courtyard or outside it, should be burned outside - And even if it became tameh inside, one does not hold it in the Temple courtyard, but burns it outside;
And that which became tameh from a secondary tum'ah - and if the meat became tameh from a secondary tum'ah, which is a less severe form of tum'ah, whether inside or outside, is to be burned inside - even if it became tameh outside, it is burned inside on the place of ashes in the Temple courtyard. There are those who explain R. Eleazar's reason to be his holding that a secondary tum'ah cannot make anything tameh except by Rabbinic decree, and since by Torah law the meat is tahor, even if it became tameh outside, one must burn it in sanctity (Bartenura). But that is not the halakhah (see Tosefot Yom Tov).
R. Akiva says, Wherever the place of contamination there is its burning - If the meat became tameh outside the Temple courtyard, even if it was a minor tum'ah, it is to be burned outside; and if it became tameh inside the Temple courtyard, and even if it was a more severe tum'ah, it is to be burned inside. And the halakhah follows R. Akiva (Rambam Hil. Pesulei Hmukdashin, 19:6).
